Dyslexia is a learning disability defined by difficulty in understanding written text and how it translates to sounds and meanings. This primarily affects the parts of the brain that process language. It’s estimated that between 7 to 17 percent of people in the world have some form of dyslexia/reading disability and research has suggested that it may be hereditary. Difficulty in reading comprehension, writing, and Math are common indicators of this disability. October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and throughout Canada, there are a number of events where you can learn about this disability along with ways you can help the community.
